Re: South Africans Living in Newfoundland
Howzit, goeie middag ja 'n lang pad van die huis af. But never the less I guess we are better off by far. We left nine years ago we tried living in the UK which is where we are origionally from, but could not settle so we ended up here. Is there a large comunity of SA people in NS? Do you know of any on the Rock?
Thank you for replying

haven't come across any other sarfers in NS, most seem to go to Toronto or Vancouver. I've been to Newfoundland a few times and love it, but haven't come across any one from SA there either.
There are quite a few expat websites for South Africans, might have more luck posting on those. pm me any time if you are feeling homesick.
Our kids were all born in Pietermaritzburg, and we were in Joburg for the last 10 years before we left

I live in Newfoundland and visited Jo'burg two years ago for business. I can tell you that it's a bloody long trip from St. John's for three days on the ground working (well 1/2 a day sleeping to get over jetlag on the way out), and that the industrial suburbs of Jo'burg look like the industrial suburbs of any other city. (although more Birmingham than Toronto). Aside from that, tenuous, connection, I suspect South African's are a small % of the expat population here.

Re: South Africans Living in Newfoundland
My sister and her family emigrated to Canada from Vereeniging (Vanderbijlpark area) about 20 years ago, partly because the two eldest boys were about to be called up for national service - but mostly because things were going downhill fast. They live in Ontario now, the funniest thing is the "children" (now in their 30's) still have a S.A accent!
I visited S.A back in the 70's for 3 months (showing my age, lol) and again in the early 80's for a month and loved it. It's a beautiful country.

Good to see there are some Saffers in Canada. Good luck with the new jobs and what luck you are at the same company!
I am a Saffer, lived in UK for too long and am moving to Toronto in April, all by my lonesome. Woohoo! Currently going through tons of mixed emotions!!
Anyway, I have tried to find South African expat sites, but none live up to this one, so can understand why you started the thread.
Could any South African expats in the GTA PM me as I would love to meet up and have a laugh about life!
Sien jou!!

Mr Fluff and I are also Saffers!! Heading for Alberta hopefully later this year.
We're in Germany at the mo but going back to UK at the end of March for a minimum of 6 months while we wait for our Canadian PR to come through. We've been away from SA for 9 years now...
I heard from an ex BE'er that there are many Saffers in Alberta. Sorry, no idea re Newfoundland. But hey, when we're there and start exploring canada we can come over for a visit
cheers vir eers!
