Default somewhere to rent

Hi

Can anyone please help, my husband and I will be on our way to Calgary probably about the beginning of July to work. We need to rent somewhere in Calgary city centre until our house is sold. Can someone recommend a website which offers furnished accommodation. Also will we be expected to rent for a fixed time, monthly, six monthly etc. I don't really know what i am doing with this as I have never rented anywhere before least of all in a new county, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I rent my furnished place out with these people - http://residential-leasing.com/ -no complaints about them as an owner, so I suppose they're nice to tenants too

I can't decide where to buy!! Perhaps I'll have it sussed by the time the CAD hits parity with the USD, that would be most welcome

We have found two rentals in calgary, one furnished short-term, and one unfurnished, longer term via this site: www.homerent.ca

Our current rental was advertised as a year's term, but we negotiated down to 7 months.

The first one we arranged before we came out, and i think we sent a bank draft in canadian dollars as a deposit. The second was more formal, I think hubby gave his work details as refererences.

Rentals, like "for-sale" houses, are snapped up pretty quick at the moment, so when you see something, be prepared to jump! You may find you have to come out to a hotel to begin with and then find something when you are here....

I just had a thought:

An alternative is to rent unfurnished and rent the stuff you need. That is quite common here ...... you can get everything right down to kitchen utensils and china etc..... and rent it by the week, so you can send it back when you move, or when your own stuff arives.

Hi

We have just left a furnished unit at Stanley Park Place not far from Downtown and right on Macleod. It is owned by Realstar. They do have a website (although I can't remember what it is!) and also have other properties. Not sure if there are any units available, all property is being snapped up here. They do let you rent on a month to month basis.

There are also hotels that offer suits with kitchenetts which maybe another option. Whatever you do act soon and make sure you have somewhere before you get over here.

HTH

Oh yeah.... these four big guys turned up with a gert big truck one day, and say they've come to pick up some stuff .....

me: What stuff?

him: oh y'know, furniture.... err a TV, sectional, hutch .... lots of stuff!

me (stepping out on the doorstep in case they think they'll help themselves to OUR "stuff"): I think you have the wrong address???

him: nope look! (shows me my address on his form.... and somebody else's name!)

me: ah!! (penny drops) That's the previous tenants!! They left over two months ago! I don't even have a forwarding address!

him: Oh? ..... well .... not your problem ma'am.... have a great day!

Then they all got back in their truck, sat there making phone calls, then left!

phew

We also had a letter from the tax people recently, advising us that we needed to complete the corporate tax return for the business operating our of our premises!!! We sent that back too!

Hi Mo

Do you know a website address for renting the furniture etc? We would possibly think of doing this.

Many thanks.
