Hi all.

I'm looking for a bit of advice from anyone who knows the GTA. I have a job offer from a firm in Woodbridge which is great news. The problem I now have is trying to decide where to live without commuting too far. I know that Woodbridge, Vaughan, Maple and King City areas are very expensive. I also know that Brampton is a very Asian area and Mississauga - I don't fancy much (unless someone can convince me otherwise). So I've been looking a bit North at towns like Bolton and Orangeville. Bolton is only 15 mins from my potential new job but there seems to be few houses coming up for sale recently and Orangeville is quite a bit further away so longer a commute but you get a lot more house for your money. Is Orangeville a bit remote?
Please help. Any info you can give will be much appreciated.

It would help to know what you think is "very expensive" and what you're looking for. To buy? To rent? Are you alone or with family etc. etc.?

I suppose, rather than writing"very expensive", I should have written: I don't think I can afford! I'm actually looking for some advice on where to live in the North Peel and Dufferin area or if it can be a bit remote there.

*sigh*. To rent or to buy? For a single guy or for a family of 10 with 15 dogs and a horse? Costing what?

*sigh* x2. Are you trying to wind me up? I'm asking for someone to give me a quick rundown of what it is like to live in the North Peel/Dufferin area in particular Bolton and Orangeville. If it really makes any difference, We are a family of four and my shoe size is 9 (though I hear that is 10 in Canada!)

Well yes, it does make a difference (aside from the shoe size).

Traveling (by car of course) from either Bolton or (rather less so) Orangeville to Woodbridge is certainly doable, except for during parts of the winter when it's hell. Neither Bolton nor Orangeville are intrinsically objectionable, but neither have a great deal going for them either.

I very much doubt that rental costs are cheaper up there than in certain parts of Vaughan, Woodbridge itself or even Richmond Hill (an area I know passing well). But you still don't say if you're looking to rent or to buy.

But I'm sure someone else will be along who has more developed mind reading powers than I, and can therefore more accurately guess from your posts what it is you would like to be helped with.

OP.....I am glad a newbie like yourself is able to spot what you did here.

Anyway, there are many areas close to or around TO, the ones you mentioned are good and affordable, but there is also the other side ( eastwards ), places like Ajax or SW into Milton that will get you into TO in about 0.5hrs on a good day

I lived north of there, it wasn't remote from me then.

Having that deja vu moment, you still cannot get from Milton to Downtown Toronto in 0.5 hrs or even 30 minutes. You could not do it yesterday and it is still the same today.

Where are you getting this from?

I think that the GO train makes the trip from Milton to Union in about an hour 10. You are really looking at a 50 minutes by car in good conditions. Realistically it will be more like 1-1/2 hours (1.5 hrs) in traffic.

Woodbridge can be a pain to commute to from east or west as there is no direct link by Monorail, oops i mean GO train. But a car is a good idea, thats if you can drive of course.

Try looking north on the 400, any town, area, hamlet will do then MLS that area and look for rentals or just look in Vaughan. If your name is really TONY, then this is for you. Lotsa da Tonies ina dis area.

By the way, Markham/ Kennedy and Steeles is Asian, Brampton is more Middle Eastern.

If I may, that's the least accurate post on this board evah. Granted you're using "Asian" in the American sense and the OP's using it in the English one but none of the people in question are Arabs. Orangeville, mentioned above, is characterised by white flight from Brampton.

You are right Geezer....that poster said "middle eastern" are all over Brampton? Orangeville has caucasians that got bumped from Mississauga and Brampton back in the day.

Groups get lumped into middle eastern category with slight inclination towards Islam or certain looks. I have heard people call North Africans, middle eastern people

East Indian then. Brown people.

My bad i still mix it all up. Took me while to get used to the American idea of whats Asian and Indian ect. I still screw up when decribing where my claimants originate.

Back on topic, I quite like Orangeville. I've never been to Woodbridge and have no idea why the OP would not just live there for a bit. But Orangeville is fine.
