Default Some basic Finance questions.

Hi all, I can't seem to find the info I'm after on previous posts, so here goes..

My wife and I are looking at moving to Vancouver or Toronto from the UK.. Specifically I work in the electronic / engineering industies - Any advice is much appreciated !

Social Security - Is this included in Federal Tax / Provincial tax ? If not, roughly how much is it ?

Apartments - I'm getting quoted about CAD1200 per month for a nice place in Vancouver. What other charges are there likely to be ? Is there a tax on accomodation ?

Cheers,
Darren.

Its there in the archive somewhere Im sure

Social security consist of canada pension plan (CPP) and Employment Insurance(EI) CPP is about 5% up to $1850 max contribution with deductions starting on income over $3500 p.a, EI is 2% up to $1080 contribution on all income.

Additional expenses when renting may vary, but are probably going to include elctricity ("hydro"), water charges, water heater rental maybe, phone and cable TV. Costs should not include property taxes though, so no additional tax to pay on the quoted figure, and no GST/ PST that you get used to adding onto stuff you buy.
