Some Advice for a Canada Wanabe!!
#16
Why are people seemly obsessed with pregnant teenagers? Unless you're the one who got a teenager pregnant, what's it got to do with you? The whole 'I'm leaving the country because of pregnant teenagers' seems a bit creepy if you ask me.

Move to Canada if you have a genuine love for the country, but not to escape the perceived negatives of the one you've left behind, as often you'll find the same problems are unfortunately everywhere.
Re: intra-company transfer, you'd need to work for the company for at least a year in the UK to qualify, and be managing numerous staff to qualify. Bear in mind also it's a temporary visa tying you to the job. Have a read of this for more info - http://britishexpats.com/wiki/Intra-...ransfer-Canada

I appreciate your comments and I understand that sometimes things don't work out. At least you say you can tried!!
I'm sure you will understand when I say that from what you tell me you come from a slightly different background to me (i.e. Cambridge Uni, Oxfordshire, etc) so I can understand your requirements and further prospects - but unfortunately that is my problem with the UK. It is a fine place to live and work in if you are what is considered "Upper Class".
I live in Slough - and to me Vancouver must be a better place that this complete sh1t hole

I live out side Dover, so its not an upper class area. I do live in an area where there are only 16 houses, so it pretty quiet place to live. It just looked on rightmove and our £260K house would be hitting close to £500k in Slough (scary prices). I could not afford a decent house in your area. Living in SE Kent and earning a professional income allows my family to have a relatively high standard or living.
I have seen the police programmes which seemed to be based around Slough and I am glad we live in relatively sleepy part of Kent.
Vancouver is an attractive place, though just as urban as where you are. Drugs are a big issue in BC. When we lived in Canada drugs and gangs in Vancouver seemed a big issue on the TV news. It seen as the grow house that supplies drugs West Coast of USA. The government in Canada wanted to legalised Cannabis as it could get $ billion in extra tax revenue. I would say most areas of Vancouver would be OK to raise a family.
Look on MLS.ca for housing to see what you could affords to buy.

Some great advice tonight guys. Keep it coming!
Response to couple of points
1. I'm in love with Vancouver - it looks like the most amazing place on earth (to me anyway)
2. Pregnant teenagers is just a stereotype - I just can't stand these sponging lazy bustards that this country actively encourages!!

Vancouver is well known for being wet. Annual rainfall is close to double that of SE England. Summer months are the driest with the similar monthly rainfall you get in the winter in SE England(unless you are in a drought as Kent is currently).
I never seen such intense rain until I visited BC. Soaked to our undies in a few minutes in a summer storm.

But Vancouver also has around 2,000 hours of sunshine a year - more if you choose where you live carefully. Even the wettest part of Vancouver has more annual hours of sunshine than the sunniest parts of the UK.

There's very little industry apart from tourist/convention related coupled with smattering of public services and the odd business. Property prices are inflated because of overseas investment rather than being fuelled by employment opportunities. There's nothing horrible about Vancouver, its quite pleasant if you've retired, with a heavy sack of money and don't really want to see your family very much. For anyone under 50 its depressingly dull and provinical.
