Hi does anyone from UK have an HNC in Social Care and has had it recognised in Ontario? I am going to contact the college credential centre but had difficulty doing the same thing with my daughter's qualifications as they were very familiar with the English school system but not the Scottish so before I contact them was wondering if anyone had any advice ? Cheers

"... Citizenship: You must be a Canadian Citizen, or a permanent resident of Canada, or be authorized under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada) to engage in the practice of social work or social service work in Ontario. If you answer “None of the aboveâ€, please provide further information with your application form. The College may contact you for further information.
If you are authorized under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada) to engage in the practice of social work or social service work in Ontario you must submit with your application form a copy of your valid work permit issued by Citizenship and Immigration Canada... "
It also says " ...If you have not already had your academic credentials in social work from a university outside Canada and the United States evaluated by CASW, you must do so... "If you are authorized under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada) to engage in the practice of social work or social service work in Ontario you must submit with your application form a copy of your valid work permit issued by Citizenship and Immigration Canada... There is also a section on 'non degree' qualifications: http://www.ocswssw.org/en/sw_no_degree.htm

I have a strange feeling that the HNC is not recognised outside the UK in any subject.

I just found out there is a bridging program that may be of interest (provided you can show proof of previous experience etc.) but it doesn't start again until September 2014.

The Internationally Educated Social Work Professionals Bridging Program offers a Certificate in Canadian Social Work Practice to prepare internationally educated social work professionals with training and previous experience to work in the social services sector in Ontario. The program is offered once each year as a part time program from September to June. The program includes degree credit courses, a practicum placement, profession specific communication and job search supports.

To register with the OCSWSSW you need the equivalent of a Batchelor Degree.
"... You must possess a minimum of a university level Bachelor’s degree, based on the norm of a four year first degree program, (or a three year Bachelor’s degree from Quebec) with a minimum of 40 per cent course credits in liberal arts, humanities, and social sciences... "
OP, you may find you need to do some extra courses, I would recommend looking at what is required to enable you to register.
