From: UK - looking to move to Toronto!

My partner and I are looking at living in Canada in the mid-term future (3 year leave UK date) and we're thinking pretty much of Toronto.
We want somewhere metropolitan, but with access to the wilds, somewhere with lots going on but it quiet corners. And, so far, Toronto sounds like this.
Plus all the festivals (and the film festival), it sounds pretty cool.
However, I wanted to get a few other thoughts.
There are some restrictions:
It can't be too cold. So Alaska and the North west is out...
It MUST be by either a massive lake/inland sea or on the coast. I've lived inland in the UK and it makes me unhappy - I'm much better living by water.
It must have a good jobs market (I'm in marketing/comms)
It can't be too expensive to live in (i.e. no central london-type prices)
Other than that, we're easy! We were looking at Halifax a while back and it looks pretty - just a bit quiet?
Your thoughts are muchly, greatly and terribly appreciated

Me again! (Sorry, I'm on the sofa feeling poorly today so have been on BE all day!).
One minor point - Alaska is in the US, not Canada. So that's definitely out anyway!
There are loads of places that may suit going on what you've said, but from your criteria I'd suggest Vancouver as it has a very mild climate compared to the rest of Canada's cities so you won't get the same extremes of cold in winter as elsewhere and ticks other boxes you've mentioned too.
Your best bet is to try and narrow it down and then go on a holiday to check it's right for you - you might love Toronto but then again, you might hate it like I did!

Aww hope you feel better
Vancouver has been suggested in the past... So we're hitting Toronto this year for 10 days and hopefully Vancouver next year for the same time period...
It's all very exciting
(You know what I meant about Alaska.... Was looking at a Russian map of the US at the time. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it...)

I should clarify my earlier comment about Toronto, perhaps 'hate' is too strong a word but my ex was from there and I spent several months there at different times of the year and it just never appealed to me. Far too built up and industrial for me so held no appeal.
But then I'm a country girl so you may love it of course, different strokes for different folks and all that.
Right, am going to be brave and venture from the sofa! Have fun with the research.
