YZ - second child I breast fed, and never got mastitis with I put it down to cabbage, something in it that's fab for reducing inflammation if you put it in your bra raw.
The only problem was, half way round ASDA on the night before Christmas eve at about 11pm I lost half a bra full, and when I got to the check out realised as I was unloading the trolley, as all the way down the make up isle were lumps of cabbage
I never loaded that trolley so quickly I can tell ya!
Seriously though, my heart goes out to you....There's an interesting condition called Fribrocystic Breast Disease that many of us ladies have and it's quite a painful thing although completely harmless thankfully.
Hey 4Bells, me and the OH have decided that if we keep gettin scares over the next year, then we are opting out and getting a new pair too, the mental stress waiting for results puts you under is wicked, and as you say there is nowehere near the same stigma as there used to be. Although, I'm pro botox too lol! Whatever makes a girl feel better
So 4Bells, how long was your recuperation afterwards and what advice would you give someone thinking about it?

Ha Ha - I remember sending oh out for cabbage leaves whilst feeding no.1 child - he rand and said they only have white and I am saying no no uts got to be savoy!! NCT!
MM - well I went in thinking ooh itll just be a little job and I must say it did hurt more than I expected but nothing unbearable. Had it done on a monday eve, stayed in mon and tues night and came home wed lunchtime - could have driven by the weekend but had old car with no power steering so left it another week.
Was in gym in 2nd week but just on the sit back bicycles.
Slight numbeness in one bit of left boob but other than that they are fab!

PMSL.......
I remember jumping up to answer the door.....there stood a teenage Jehovah Witness, as I tried to tell him I was a bit busy at the moment, I could see he was bright red, I looked down to find my breast pad had fallen out onto the floor!
funny....they never did call back

actually - after my mum had her mastectomy and before her full reconstruction she had some stick on nipples - my daughter was only a few months old and still feeding - me and mum used to stick them to the wall and the hold the baby up to them - yup she tried to suckle - we peed ourselves - well in the face of adversity its laugh or cry - - or poss child abuse?? !

Adversity = pee yourself laughing, especially after what your mum had been through!
We had an incident where Miss Miggins tried to "latch" on to a six foot 5 black dude, that was a moment to remember, especially him screaming like a girl in fright lol!

i had my first smear (pap) here in canada..in december..now i have had 4 kids and each smear i had done in the UK were really painful..the one i had done recently i honestly didnt feel a thing..i didnt think she started...and i had it done through my GP...ive always had my smears done i feel prevention is better than cure....i think they are the most undignified thing us women have done..and the boob thing well mine are lumpy anyway so it would be hard for me to tell...so having a mamm at 40 is a good thing

I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks smears here are painful!
I had my first one last year as I had been putting it off. Funny thing is I wasn't worried about it hurting, more worried about losing my dignity.
Anyway, I was lying there and the nurse used this huge metal thing.
It was sooo painful, she was moving it around coz she couldn't find my cerix or something. And I'm sure she pinched me while it was in. Anyway, I was in so much pain so she took it out and went "your quite small aren't you"
....... Bearing in mind I am 5'3 and a size 6-8, you would have thought she would have known that as I walked in the door. I could have punched the woman!!!!! And she knew it was my first one.
Consequently she then used a small plastic one which was fine.
I am hoping the smears in Canada (ON) are better and the nurses more sympathetic.
Sorry for my little rant there.
