Were you using a transformer? Or just a plug converter??
We bought a Kenwood Chef over (my wife loved it!) and an Onkyo (Integra) Amplifier (I love it) and both run fine off a transformer.
After 4 years, we did buckle and buy a Kitchenaid because lugging the transformer around was a pain!!

Look on the tongs.. There will be a sticker or something that says what sort of electricity it works on. My tongs and hair dryer and toothbrush are rated for 100-240 w. they will work on either continent.

fret no more! You can buy them online; although I have to say, they seem a bit pricey compared to other brands of hair appliance that you can get here. Still, I'm mental about my hair too, so I know how it is...
