Does anyone currently use a Slingbox to watch UK tv?
I'm thinking of getting one and I would like to know what the picture quality is like, how complicated the setup is etc.
Any comments welcome.

The quality is likely to be limited by the amount of upstream bandwidth your connection has - what sort of speeds are you anticipating on that side of things? Any UK TV we want to watch I just download from a torrent site and watch at our leisure.

Hi Bazzz,
I'm on Telus High Speed (wireless ADSL). I think the upstream is around the 500Kbps mark and Downstream 2.0 Mbps. Is that enough?
Torrent sounds like an interesting alternative. Which Torrent sites do you find work best? Is the quality good for you?
Cheers.

thepiratebay.org and isohunt.com are good places to start.
You'll need a BitTorrent client. Azureus is the one I use.

I have read a number of time of people who have done this and have been more than happy with the quality. The only downside of this is that you have to have someone who is more than happy to have it attached to there reciever. Ideally someone with the twin reciever setup in the UK is ideal, that way yours & their t.v. habits do not clash i.e. changing channels.
Other than that it seems to work really well.
Don't forget though the slingbox has to be located in the UK (just incase you didn't realise).

I'd recommend UKNova and thebox.bz, but I think they're both invite-only now.

I am using thebox.bz - great site - get torrents of poular shows almost the same day they come out in the UK - download speeds are very good. Highly recommended - the site opens up to new comers now and then you have to be persistant
