Hi,
I have been here a little while, I am living in Kingston. I have heard that it is a reasonable popular thing or at least not unheard of to car pool when heading to the ski hills.
I read Kajiji is my best bet but I figured that I would give it a good or appeal for some advise on here. This community has always been pretty friendly in the past.
As I say I am living in Kingston and I am pretty well by myself. I have been a skier since I was young and I thought I would be able to do plenty whilst I was here. However, a combination of not knowing too many people, expensive public transport and a distinct lack or a car is keeping me away. Is anyone heading to a ski hill soon and willing to take an extremely well mannered young Brit along for the ride
. Failing that any advise on how I could get to Blue Mountain, Mont Tremblant or where ever (I am not hugely knowledgable of the area) on a budget would be very gratefully received.
Cheers

I wish I could help you out, but my cars usually full of kids. Maybe try and get in touch with the ski club at Queens Uni? They may be able to take pity on you and will be a similar age?

A good friend of mine who now coaches my kids at Batawa started to ski as a student there, and they would head to the hills around Montreal and as far as Vermont pretty often.
Your other local options from Kingston would be Batawa, which is a small hill (but 15 mins from my work and home, and better than nothing) and then places up in the Ottawa Valley like Calabogie, public transport would be "a challenge". The better skiing is north of montreal. Basically any decent skiing with numerous runs and varied terrain is probably a 4h drive one way or the other, or maybe less if you head to Pakenham/ Calabogie.
Car hire maybe as a last resort?

http://www.ncskiclub.ca/Day_Trips.html here is a link to some ski clubs that run a bus and lift ticket from Ottawa....in terms of cheap lift tickets, Costco is usually a good option.
Whiteface is probably closer but hard to get to from Canada via public transit.

I guess I was a bit naive when I came here. Back in the UK I live 800+ miles from the French Alpes and its actually pretty easy to get there without a car, on a train or on a plane. I stupidly assumed moving around would be similar here but its not. It is becoming something of a problem really. I am not here long enough for think about getting a car but these are both possible solutions I will definitely look into both Queens Ski Club and the day trip thing from Ottawa.
Thanks for taking the time to reply guys.

I would love to come but I very much doubt that I will be able to get the time off work on this sort of notice. Are you just going for the day? No over night stay or anything?

Brimacombe (aka Oshawa Kirby) is offering $20 lift tickets during the week at the moment. Thats a pretty good deal for anyone in the GTA looking for a cheap day out on the hill.
Their store also has a sale on, so it may not end up that cheap...

Now that would be good!
