Looking at insurance policies to go out on Bunac and when we add winter sports they go up astronomically! Can we get winter sports insurance while in Canada and will it be cheaper?

If you do end up getting your own it'll take a lot of work reading fine prints etc. No idea if it'll be cheaper though.

The BUNAC policy is extremely expensive. We're flying out in September and have bought insurance via American Express, the winter sports add-on was only about £80 (sorry can't remember exact figures) but compared to BUNAC it's amazingly cheap. Also BUNAC excepted it first time and even said it was a policy they would reccommend.
It's definately worth looking around and if neccessary do as we did, just keep sending BUNAC policy documents until they say yes
Good luck!!

Thank you.
I will try Amex today. Just trying to save the pennies for while we are there not spend them all getting there!
Good luck in september, not long now!

Hey
We're going with Karma insurance, for me & my boyfriend its costing about £300 for the both of us, this covers working and unlimited amount on the mountain (some insurance companies have a maximum amount of days i.e 30).
This might sound incredibly cheap but the covers very good, I compared the small print with Worldnomads and the cover was higher with Karma although Worldnomads was a more expensive policy £300 EACH so don't be fooled into thinking that just because you are paying more that your cover is better! Karma also cover you for lost baggage which I've noticed some companies add on as an 'extra'.
It may be tedious to check the small print but by doing so you could save yourself alot of money, Karma stores everthing online so if you have any issues while your away you can print off the documents as you need them. Bunac also except it but you can email them the policy schedule and they will check it for you.
Hope you find the right one for you and have a great time in Canada, I can't wait to go!

The Bunac insurance policy isn't compulsary, you can go for another policy but it must be equal or better than the cover they offer. Alot of people use ACE UK, which is alot cheaper and good.

I'm out here on BUNAC and we bought ACE insurance - was approved by BUNAC and was much cheaper and includes so many activities - rather then excluding loads of activities, loads and loads are included in the policy but there's a diferent excess for different activities which we preferred.
