Default SIN number and Health Card

Are the SIN number and the provincial health card ( OHIP, etc..) tied or connected to each other, and if so, how?

Not as far as I know in BC (MSP) as when you apply they never asked for it, nor have they ever asked me for it. If they know it or not, I have no clue, but they certainly have never asked for it.

are both documents tied in any way shape or form to the credit rating? ( I know that's a strange question, but anyhow, one can never be certain....)

Certainly not the health card. I'd have thought the same applies to the SIN, but I don't really know.

Any experts?

No, why should I?

It's more about trying to understand the system at play, nothing more nothing less. Hence the question.

Well why don't you simply run a credit rating check on yourself to see how it's accessed?

I have no idea.

I think its the fact that the majority of your posts recently have been concerned about who has what info.

SIN OHIP CBSA finger prints.

You sure you don't need a tinfoil hat ?

In BC, you are asked for your SIN along with other income information if you are applying for premium assistance as this is income based.

Credit is measured by your SIN number in Saskatchewan, as a temporary resident your SIN starts with a 9 and this helps all financial institutions determine your status when applying for credit - as for other provinces I could not tell you.

You should never give out your SIN to a bank except when legally required to, and applying for credit is not one of those times.

Some private-sector organizations may ask for your SIN. This practice is strongly discouraged, but it is not illegal.

Here are examples of when you don’t have to give your Social Insurance Number:

proving your identity (except for specific government programs)
completing a job application before you get the job
completing an application to rent a property
negotiating a lease with a landlord
completing credit card application
cashing a cheque
applying for a video club membership
completing some banking transactions (mortgage, line of credit, loan)
completing a medical questionnaire
renting a car
subscribing to long-distance or cellular telephone services
writing a will
applying to a university or college.

SIN has nothing to do with credit. It is used to trace someone if they try to disappear and when doing a credit check match names to those on record.

SIN and credit checks are the same across the country, they are not provincial. Credit cannot be refused just for refusing to give a SIN.

I never mentioned disclosing this information freely or saying it was an OFFICIAL way of checking your credit, its more of an unwritten rule in this province, wasn`t looking to mis-inform anyone
