I've decided not to vote. Not because I don't have an opinion about things, I've spoken about it before, but because I refuse to vote in a public poll. How can you possibly get everyone being honest when they know that others will see how they've voted?

All it does is identify friends/enemies.

It's not as if he's asking you on your views on the death penalty!

True, plus he knows my feelings on the subject based on a post I made earlier in the week.

However, I don't believe that everyone would select honestly when it comes to the vote. There has been a definite divide on the forum in the last week which hasn't been particularly nice to watch for those of us who do more lurking (or fence-sitting) than posting. Do you think that identifying who is sitting on which side of the fence will make that better or worse?

As you will have probably seen from my thread, which is currently running, I do believe it may be better to have a separate forum for general "chat".

My main concern is that people wanting some information about Canada/culture/lifestyle etc are having their threads hijacked and taken off the original topic far too easily nowadays.

Light hearted humour and banter does have its place (I have contributed in such a way myself) and I am sure it helps to ease the stress of the long wait for many of us waiting to hear from CHC. I really do not have a problem with that. However, it should not be to the detriment of those who want as much information as possible before making the big move to Canada.

Why not have a Canadian chat forum? And why would it make you enemies if you did/didn't want one. Honestly, I don't see the problem here. You only have to go to the Aussie forum to see that it works perfectly. The immigration questions are confined to the Australia forum and the rest is in the Barbie. For the people who aren't interested in 'one liners' the Australia bit is perfect. For the people who are here to stave off boredom, vent, etc the Barbie is perfect.

I really don't see why this is a big deal!?!?!? Granted I have no idea what went on last week so I can't comment on that. Still though why is this such an issue?

I think it should just be a "Do you think we need a seperate forum? Yes or No?". That would give the result everyone wants and not single anyone out.
All this kick em out stuff is a bit of a stick to beat people with.

I agree. I was going to start a poll yesterday, exactly as you suggest, but was having trouble setting it up. Not too tecky I am afraid.

Well I've voted for kick em out I'm going with them because I think it needs to be separate and if I want some banter or a laugh about nothing at all I can bank on a few people being there with a sense of humour. Looks like I'm the only one so far voting that way which I'm surprised at. Come on now guys and gals, even if you are not too happy with some members its no use being vindictive and voting to boot people out as it just won't happen so vote for a separate area.

Butch, I think you should have had 2 options only (too many gets people confused what to vote for and sometimes vote with their hearts not their heads). Option 1 : To leave things alone Option 2 : To have a sub forum

Agree, I'm the same same. I like a laugh, my gripe has been that the beaver etc stuff doesnt belong in here.
The wording of it "Kick em out I'm going with em" sounds like we should kick them off the forum and I'm leaving to.

Perhaps as the mods are the ones who have to make the final decision they are the ones who should pose the questions. I made the mistake of thinking this was a "serious" poll. But I should know better by now eh!

That's how I read it too. Why would anyone intending to leave the forum care what happened?

Yep, can be interpreted in 2 ways but I think Butch means a sub forum, not kicked out
