Default Should he leave ??

Hello ,

Just a quick question (yet again). My husband whom is hoping to get us to Canada as a HGV /long haul driver , He has told the company he works for and what what can i say they are not being very good , he has a major pig of a boss and is making life awful for him . He has been offered another job here in the UK until we can get to Canada , The reason im asking is would it have a bad reflect on his Cv for future employers in Canada??

Siemens seem interested, Not heard anything from H&R ,Bison think thats the name want 5 years solid experience where as Graham was in the forces and has had his licence for over 12 years but only done last 2 1/2 3 years full time .

Any advice greatly appreciated as dont want to spoil anything for Canada ,

Thanks
Debbie

Hi there,

I would say start the new job during the interim period. I am sure a short explanation in the covering letter would be far better than the possibility that his "pig of a boss" could make things far worse, especially when it comes to references etc..

It could be that the interim period may take upto a year or more, so this wouldn't look out of place on a CV anyway.

just my thoughts

Thanks for that .

Such a hard discission but he is so so unhappy in his current job it worries me he has said he will stick it out if it would effect Canada.

Not got a job offer yet but fingers crossed someone will want a hard working HGV driver !!

I worry if he doesnt quit this job he will "smack" this bloke and end up with a record and wont be able to go anyway !!

Might be best to move on anyway - nothing worse than being stuck in a job you hate. Especially if you don't know how long the process will take.

Some might say i am perhaps too rash - though when i start to dislike my workplace so much i move on; of course you have to give it a little time just incase there are circumstances in the workplace that are causing the problems which may eventually go away.

No it won't impact badly on him and the preparations for the move to Canada will be stressful enough without him having the added worry of a boss who is an arse.

Move jobs and be happy

Thanks again,

Your replies have made his choice so much easier.... He has been in the job 2 years now and the new boss been there 5 months now and its going from bad to worse , Graham is more qualified than him (graham also has CPC transport & logistics management ) The boss takes great pleasure in making his life a misery as Graham stands his ground and tell him he is an arse !!

Since leaving the army after 22 years Graham wanted a job that pays the money and less stressful than the army but last few months have been hell , hes only stuck it out for our dream s to go to Canada .We have just decided he will take the other job and the MD of the company he is with now will give him a great reference so thats something.

He is ringing a few compaines in Canada tomorrow so fingers crossed x

good luck debbie and husband take the other job and be stress free as MMC wrote. When we took our paperwork into the Saskatchewan Governmentthey where amazed that Mal had so few jobs as a truck driver so I think they expect drivers to move around a lot.

Has he tried Yanke in Saskatoon?

Yes, that's who my OH works for. He didn't take long to get into the double manning it doesn't worry him.

Has he tried Prudhomme or Schneiders as they are now, they single man.

Thanks again Lorna,

Hubby had an hour long conversation with Siemans yesterday whom seem keen for him to visit and start ASAP , so that has cheered him up a little they have said not to worry about changing jobs it will not reflect badly at all on future employment in Canada , so he has gone into work today to resign well an ultimation either the bloke goes or he does !! Watch this space .

House goes on the market Thursday so now need to start sorting police checks , medicals ect ect

All very exciting , well at the moment it is until the stress kicks in ...

Thanks again

Debbie

Oh yes just one more question i know you said your OH works for Yanke had he been driving full time for 5 years before he started with them ?

Talk again

Great news Debbie

Mal has driven for the past 20 years without a break so that wasn't an issue for him.
