Question Shopping: Pre-emptive strike

If our offer is accepted on the house we've found (I hope you're all still crossing your fingers ) completion is planned for th 24th of January. Assuming this happens (please) I've got 2 quick Q's:

Are the savings worth buying furniture in the Boxing day Sales and storing it for the 24th or will the sales still be going?

Can anyone give me the urls of good shopping websites? British expats may remember the wonders of Play.com for cheap dvds, music and games with free p&p. Is there a canadian equivalent of kelkoo?

Thanks in advance

Welsh
