I agree it varies hugely across brands, but the John Lewis kids fitters always tell you the same about StartRite/Clarks - if you're a 7 in one, you need a 7.5 in the other, or something like that. So it's not just Canada. I ignore my shoe size and just try them on, I have Canadian 8s, 9s and 9.5s in the closet that all fit.

What I find most annoying is trousers and jeans... I'm 5ft 8, not exactly short, and to get trousers that don't scrape across the floor, get filthy in puddles and fray on the concrete, I need to buy *petite* sizes! What's that about?! Canadian women I know aren't exactly Amazonian in stature, why I am petite at 5ft 8 :D What do genuinely petite people do?

Buy crop length trousers and wear them as full length! Or invest in a needle and thread. Thats what I do. Trousers are ok, but the length of sleeves is a pain, thats much trickier to take up. I have the added problem of being the right weight for 7 foot so anything my size is extra long!

Sorry B, I said kids sizing is the same as womens,2 sizes bigger! I just didn't put it well! I am also the same height as you and I am fed up being told 'it will shrink' when they try and sell these long clothes. Have they not heard of preshrinking? I want clothes to fit to start with and stay the same size!

I hope the men's clothes come extra long too, as I'm 6'6" Trying to find a decent length here without going to a "tall and fat" shop is fairly difficult!

Invest in the instant stitch place (usually conveniently located in the malls near the clothes stores!!)

I'm 5'2" and head for the kid's section first...though turn-ups and raggedy bottoms have become my fashion.

Wow I'm petite (5'2") but need regular trousers so I guess it's all down to the length of your legs vs torso.

In clothes my 10-12 UK = 4-6 US
and in shoes my 5 UK 38 European = 7.5 US

I'm petite too - barely 5'2" and UK size 6/8 and the only place I have found that does a half decent petite range is Laura Petites, which is great for work clothes. And also before my MIL comes out from the UK I send an order to Next (thankfully I kept the account) to her address and she brings the stuff over...problem solved!

I am really desperate for the kids feet to be properly measured though, as it's just been guess work since we've been here and they've grown like mad - must be the water!

Inside leg 32 in. Is that short? I've just checked the OH's closet and his jeans are 34 leg and 32 leg, and he's 6ft 2in. So I guess that means one of us has short legs?! It's just odd that I never had this in the UK, and obviously the clothes are all churned out in the same factories... why do they think Canadian and US women are giants? :D

Agree on the sleeves too Batty, always safe with 3/4 ones but I can look like a chimp if I go for long sleeve  Do I have short arms too?!

No worries... the endless repetition of shoveling snow, chopping ice and plugging/unplugging your block heater will soon turn you into a hunched-over wretch, so regular-length clothing will fit just fine.

Bit of an odd one this..... How is Canada in terms of large size shoes? I'm talking UK size 13 - not even sure what size that would be in Canada, do they use US sizes (which would be size 15?)?

I have nightmare finding shoes over here - pretty much the only place I can get them is Brantano, anywhere else on the high street looks at me like I'm a freak (maybe I am ;) ) when I ask for 13's!

I have 12 Uk (so 13 here)

I do find more celection but still struggle. Big box retailers are the way to go. Sadly.

Isn't that what kids are for? :sneaky:
