Default Shipping less than a container full

We've decided to be ruthless and get rid of most of our belongings before we leave. Some will be on eBay or in boot sales, some will be given away and the rest should go in a garage sale or down the tip.

Eventually, we hope to be taking just my collection of a few hundred DVDs (which I can't bear to part with), a few hundred CDs (in four-five carrying cases), some books and sentimental papers/pictures and our clothes, plus a nice king-size bed, which will be taken apart.

As a result, we think we'll need only part of a container. Most of the threads that mention shipping talk about full, 20ft containers. Has anybody done a part-share of one, and if so what did it cost and who did you use?

Yes - all the shipping companies do this. We've just shipped about 80 cubic feet of stuff (about half a transit van) for about 750 quid. Used Anglo Pacific - very impressed with the guys that turned up to pack the stuff, can't comment on the full service until goods turn up at this end

We are only shipping half a container - using GB Liners and they quoted just under £2000 including insurance. They have been great so far!

We have been quoted £1200 for up to 280 cubic feet to move from Scotland to Vancouver with Anglo Pacific, cheapest so far.

We shipped with Migrate Global - cost us £1700 for approx 23 boxes + some office furniture. Service up to now has been great, but we don't get reunited with our belongings until May (we shipped the minimum but we put it into storage with Migrate Global until a few weeks ago).

hey, thats a good idea...we'd not considered that.

We would only want to keep the big telly, our bed, a couple of wardrobes, clothes, CDs, bikes (maybe)....the rest can be fleebay'd

Good call!

Thats encouraging, we probably wont be bringing a lot of the kids furniture as they are out growing it so this might be a good route for us.

the nice chap who arrive said that would be half a 20ft container and going to vancouver would take 6 weeks, includes fast track clearance at vancouver port.

i think thats fantastic considering we werent going to take anything .

we had looked at excess baggage.com and for 20 boxes they wanted 2056!!!

We shipped part share. We were told it would take six weeks. Six weeks later we called called to find out where our stuff was. It was still in Portsmouth. What the stupid guy hadn't told us, was it would take six weeks, once the container had been filled up - that took nearly 2 months. OH was 3 months without tools to enable him to work easily as a mecahnic - very frustrating and something to bear in mind.

We used www.she-maritime.com based in London but nationwide. We packed 3 wooden crates 1.5mtr long by .75 wide and high apparently 2.6cu meters. This was enough space for all our personal stuff, some clothes and tools the weight was about 1500kg and the charged us 503 GBP which we were very impressed with.

Grendel - we used Excess International - they have weekly / fortnightly departs - so you dont have to wait too long for the contain er yr sharing to be filled.

Our stuff was packed on the wed and was off on its merry way the next week - they were v good, nothing broken
