Question shipping costs Devon to Nova Scotia

Hi,

We've just had a quote from a local international removers servoce quoting us £6,076.00 :scared: to ship our stuff from Devon/Somerset boarders to Nova Scotia. It's just as well I'm working from home this afternoon as I shall now need a long lay down to get over the price!!

So anyone got any suggestions? I'm just going to ring around a few removal firms, but it would be great to have some suggestions/experiences. I've done a search, but no-one seems to be in our area - or I got bored before I found them! I did notice someone getting their stuff from somewhere 'up north' to Vancover for £3,000 and something so I'm sure we can do better than £6,000

Thanks

Hi
yes it is a 20ft container, and I have searched, there's just no-one who's moved from our neck of the woods!

We aren't really In Devon at all (we've lived in Devon for the last 7 years and feel it as our home! (that and Rose Bay NS!). but we're renting at the moment prior to heading to NS in July and we had to just 'pop' over the boarded into Somerset!!) Barnstable's not too far away, about 50 miles I suppose! Who did they use?
I've spent the afternoon phoning round, most firms don't seem to want to do Canada, I've had another quote for £7,000! Pickfords wouldn't even give me an estimate over the phone and can only come and visit us in 3 weeks time! Another local firm has said about £3,500 and are coming round next week.
Thanks for your input.

we used crown relocation for a door to door service (plymouth to Guelph, ON), packing, unpacking and it cost us about 4000 pounds. The guys were great and not a single thing broken. They are based in Birmingham but that didn't worry them at all. Get a quote from them. This was our 5th shipping over the atlantic (we did most of the other moves ourselves - never again, you just don't save very much at all and customs like to see a company filed inventory). Good luck

Wow! You should be able to. We are moving Dorset to Calgary and have had two recent quotes...... Brittania £4300 and Bishops Move £4500. Neither quote includes insurance. Worth ringing around.

Best of luck J

here is the website

we have also airfreighted with BAX Global and Britainnia. The good thing about crown is they don't use agents when in a foreign country, it is crown relocation all the way from door to door (they also unpacked in our new house- although you do pay for this)

We used Dorey Bonner 5 years ago, and it cost around £3000 from London to Vancouver (they have to go the long way round through the panama canal etc). As you know Nova Scotia is just across the water, so I can't imagine that they will charge heaps to go there. They were very friendly and helpful.

Hi
We are moving from Devon to Calgary and have had 4 quotes. All were £3000 - £4000 They were with Robinsons, Fox move, Britannia and Bishops Move. This price does not include insurance but some were including free storage for a number of weeks.

Hope this helps

Wallace

Hi,
we used Allied Pickfords. We had a 20ft container from Lancashire to Nova Scotia. The container went by train from manchester to a port in the south,(can't remember where to), but it arrived safely in NS 3 weeks later. We paid around the £4,000.
