Default Shipping Companies and the how to ?

Hi folks we are trying to find out the best way to pack our belongings which we will take with us to Canada ie , Boxes approved for the job and listing items within , whether they have to be sealed etc and the most suitable company to deal with for someone based in Leicester .

We arent taking a great deal but we do have some items of furniture that we would like to take as well .

I would suppose the boxes would need to be from a certain supplier to meet requirements by the shipping companies.

Also do you need an address to ship to or , do you collect yourself from the docks ?

What is the timescale from sending to receiving ?

Do they collect or do you have to deliver to them ?

Anyone here who can advise then it would be much appreciated .

We are New Brunswick bound (Fredericton)

thanks Dave

Hi There

I am just in the process as well checking out about shipping and packing a sthis is my first time.

There is really good guide at www.sevenseasworldwide.com and also a group called www.Anglopacific.co.ukmight also offer advice.

Quotes and prices will vary and it's a case of weighing it all up when after you read the packing introductions.

Hope this helps and good luck.

We're using Robinsons International. Great service and great price.
Sharing a container which is supposed to be the slow route but from collection to delivery should be only 7 weeks.

PSS seemed ok but didn't follow up from their quote.

Anglo Pacific were a complete waste of time so crossed them off the list. They wanted us to do all the hard work then get them to just send us a price based on our estimate. How can we do it when we've got no experience of this?

Hope this helps.

We are using GB Liners and they are a really nice firm to deal with free storage offers and other stuff. They also include all the packing boxes paper and tape required to pack your house up and offer different types of move.

If it is just packing boxes that you are going to ship over as opposed to a container then the guy here in manchester admitted that they were not the cheapest people to go with.

My friend is using seven seas - and is really happy with the service so far for sending over a dozen or so boxes to Australia. They allow you to over order your boxes and then return them if you dont use them and all they do is adjust your shipping quote at the end of it all

Hi Wizaird,

We are using Doree Bonner, in fact they were here today packing up for us. I would highly recommend them. From what we have seen so far.

They pack everything, ship it to Canada, their agents (Tippet Richardson) deal with customs etc that side, then deliver to your door. We are having 150 cu ft (no furniture just personal items and kids toys) boxed, costing just over £1000 inc insurance.

We have no address in Canada as of yet, we are to advise of address at a later date ie when we have a house!

Obviously different DB staff all over UK but up here they were professional, couteous, and prompt; job was completed within 4 hours.

Hope this helps

Just to add , what is the best prcedure for the packing into boxes ie clothes , books , personal effect , i believe there are forms to be filled in for customs .Would you put clothes into a clear bag then into box and seal with a brief description on outside of box or will all boxes need to be unsealed?

Also where is the best deal for cardboard boxes for which we will need ?Can we use any size box or is it better to keep them all the same size?
What about furniture , will this need to be wrapped in bubble wrap first prior to collection or would this be done by say Doree ?

thanks Dave

If you pack it yourself your insurance will only cover for loss not damage.
Let the shipping firm do it all for you and they provide all the necessary boxes, bubble wrap, etc. Much easier and provides peace of mind.

Hi Dave,

Doree bring everything required for packing, do it all for you, and complete an inventory of all your items. Boxed or not. If you book an appointment with a rep from Doree they will explain every detail of the move.
Timeline wise we have been quoted 12 weeks, could be quicker due to amount of moves on over summer, might be lucky.
