Default Setting up as a Contractor

Has anyone else done this for tax advantages?

I am here on 2 year work permit (courtesy of my partner who took an intercompany transfer)

As I understand I could avoid paying EI and CPP by being paid as a contractor?

I am currently paid hourly by my employer as a consultant but they have indicated they would be happy to be me as a self-employed company.

Has anyone done this and what are the pros/cons?

you may screw yourself with that work permit if you do that. When we applied for a work permit, the company was turned down... one of the reasons was that we checked the box for "self-employed contractor" and apparently work permits are set up NOT for selfemployeds but for EMPLOYEES. be careful with this one.
