Default sending small goods to ont.

Hi All,
I am expecting to move to Ontario towards the end of May...hopefully house will get sold. I am not going to take furniture, kitchen sink.... and all the bulky items. However, there will be other small items such as books, items of sentimental value etc which will have to follow. At this stage I very very roughly estimate some 4 .... 5...6 suitcasefulls (typical standard size).
What is a good way of sending these at a reasonable cost?

Also I have relations in Toronto. What is the prospect of sending this stuff to their address before LANDING ..... any customs implications. I do not wish to hassle relations in Canada unnecessarily.
Many thanks.
Harrys.
