Default Sending personal stuff to Montreal

I am an osteopath and I want to send my medical reference books (and some paperback novels) on to Montreal when I arrive on my 18 month work permit in June.

What is the cheapest way from the UK and will I have to pay any customs charges for "old books" (20kg)?

Also, any ideas on how to send my mountain bike and guitar under same conditions?

I am also contemplating bringing some small sized medical equipment (certified laser and interferential for Canada) and wonder how I may do this too.

Thanks in advance.
