Default Seeking temporary psychiatric nursing licence in canada.

Hiya,

Good day all. I was just wondering if anyone can advice in regards to the above please. As it stands, my family and I are on the last lap of obtaining our permanent residency in Canada as we have been requested to go ahead with our medical examinations.

I would like know if how to go about obtaining a temporary nursing licence which enables me to work in Canada while I study for my exams. I have already had my credentials assessed and a bridging programme has been recommended which I would like to undertake while in Canada.

Our destination is Manitoba and Winnipeg to be precise, so will so much appreciate advice on how to go about this.

Thanks a lot

Hi,

You really need to contact the registering body for Manitoba directly about this. You can if approved subject to sitting and passing the exam, but I don't think there is an option if you are required to do a bridging program.

Good luck though.

Hi,

I was living in Winnipeg, and looked into getting my credentials assessed with the licencing body in MB. The timeline is lengthy, and often if you need to do the bridging course you won't be issued a temp licence until you have completed the course. (I spoke to many other International Educated RN's)

I knew my husbands job would be moving to Calgary, so I decided not to register in Mb. I submitted my application for assessment to AB licencing agency in Nov 2013 and I am still awaiting the decision of their assessment - the lengthy process seems to be common.

Good luck!

This may not be a good time as the province announced today that it is closing the psychiatric department at one of the hospitals in Winnipeg.

The Union is saying that this will result in some junior nurses being left without a position, as laid off senior nurses can bump junior nurses out of a job if necessary. The province of course denies that this will happen.
