Default Secret security clearance

Hi

I'm currently applying for work in Canada after recently receiving pr and noticed that a few jobs say I must be able to pass secret security clearance. How do I know if I can pass this? Can I apply for these roles? Can they even do a sufficient check on me if all of my history is in the UK?

Yes they can. Im a former UK citizen who has Secret clearance in my job. You will never know until you complete the forms required and background checks done.
Perhaps your grandfather was and still is a Chinese undercover operative.

Thanks that's great to know. I assumed I couldn't apply for those jobs.

He didn't say you could. He said the Canadians can do the checks.

Slight difference.

Tut tut you're not meant to divulge if you have security clearance. I can't divulge why I know this

I tend to think the qualifications asked for in our recruitment posters tend to divulge this

Absolutely they can! It's called 'the five eyes' and is where Canada, UK, USA, Aus and NZ share intelligence - common knowledge, see here:
