Question Secondary school jobs

Hi guys,

I am a secondary school maths teacher hoping to find a job in B.C. Myself and two sons will be arriving around August. Anyone know what the prospects are in the area or the official website for advertisements in education?

Looking forward to a new life but getting worried in case there isn't any work.

Stressed out wee Scots mum.

Chan_konabe, who is a school teacher in a remote part of BC, posted information in this thread.

It takes time to break into teaching in Canada. See the Wiki article called Teaching in Canada.

In addition to what I mentioned in your earlier thread: August is a good time of the year for you to look for jobs. Here is how the hiring process usually works for the school districts in BC. Over April to June, the continuing contract teachers must say whether or not they'll return for the following school year. In June and July, vacant positions (both continuing contract and temporary contract) for the following school year are posted. However, due to union rules, only currently employed teachers may bid on them. In August, any vacant positions become open to Teachers on Call (TOC's) already employed in the school district. Any positions that are still left vacant after that round of hiring become open to external applicants (ie you) by late August or early September. After mid-September, it will become increasingly difficult to secure full-time or part-time employment until the mid-semester vacancies are posted - usually in late January and early February.

Just be sure to have your BC College of Teachers teaching certificate in hand by August or else the school districts won't even consider you for a position. Get started on it ASAP because it has been known to take several weeks or even months to process.
