Smile scottish moving to REGINA

Hello,
My husband has just been offered a job in Regina and we will hopefuly be moving in late summer this year. We have researched the area as best we can but are now looking to ask for advice from people already living there as to where the best areas to live are and what areas to avoid.
As we have 2 children aged 10yrs and 7yrs we are keen to find a nice safe neighbourhood close to schools and local amenities.
Any help or advice we receive will be appreciated!
Thank you

Hi Kellys247

Your in the same boat as us, take a look at the replies I received from the other members.
As far as areas to avoid you don't want to go to the North Central area, plenty of new neighbourhood's being built we are looking at the South East Harbour Landing area.
We have a 10 year old daughter in tow as well

Thank you for your reply,
I will have a look and gather some information, thank you.
Have you researched the cost of everyday living at all? thats our next job, just basically how much to eat, live and general day to day costs.
Where are you and your family from?

If you have a look at some of the websites on the google search, there are several that give details of cost of everyday items in Regina. You can also compare different Cities on some of them.

Here's two to be going on with: http://www.expatistan.com/cost-of-living/regina and http://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living...da&city=Regina

You are very welcome.

You might want to look at the flyers for local stores too: http://www.saveland.ca/browse_flyers...v=SASKATCHEWAN + http://www.save.ca/flyers + http://flyers.smartcanucks.ca/

Hi kellys247

For some reason I replied but it didn't register.

Done all the research as much as we can, the wife has family in Vancouver so we have a good idea about the cost of ling etc.
It all depends on how much you take over from the UK to set yourself up with regards to down payments on you mortgage, car etc.
We are from London by the way, what does your OH do ?

Yea we have had a look at previous replies an getting a better picture of cost of living etc!
OH is a HGV technician and will be working in Regina.
I don't suppose u also know anything about cars when we get there?
What is best? Leasing one? Getting one on finance? Or buying one outright? Sorry for questions on a different topic lol just thinking of all the other things we will have to sort out. Does a UK license cover driving over there do a certain amount of time or will we have to re-apply for a Canadian one?

As a rough guide, figure the cost of living to be about the same as in the UK - some things cost more, some less, so most forum members think it evens out in the end.

HTH, best of luck with the move.

Christmasoompa is right about the cost of living it isn't no cheaper than the UK.
As for us, we are going to buy a car outright as we are trying to stay away from as much debt as possible.
Insurance is a joke though about 2 to 300 a month.
Your UK licence is ok to start with but you will have to change it to a provincial one later on, not sure on the time scale though.

For used cars check the Auto Trader website/app. North Central's reputation is a bit overdone, imo. I live right in the middle of it and think the odds of coming to mayhem no worse than in other areas - criminals will on occasion travel to better areas to rob a bettter class of people.
