Scots in Calgary
Hey,
I moved to Calgary May 2014, living in the Bletline and working in Mission, I have met lots of irish people but no Scots. Are there any scots in Calgary? |
Re: Scots in Calgary
Too many for my liking  There is even a Celtic supporters club or used to be last time I was there.
Celtic Supporters Club's in Canada - Calgary C.S.C. Wow they even have Scottish country dancing. Is that like line dancing with a bottle of Irn Bru? Scottish Country Dancing: RSCDS Calgary Branch Not forgetting the Calgary Robbie Burns Club THE CALGARY BURNS CLUB - Home Page They even have a Scottish store(s). Google serach Calgary Scottish brings up a host of things Jock related. |

Well I usually pop in with a guy from London and one from Newcastle but I have heard a few scots voices around.. |
Re: Scots in Calgary
We frequent Canadian Brewhouse on Harvest Hills and 96th Ave NE, and Scotsmans Well on Symons Valley Road NW!
Brewhouse has all the sports channels so we're there for all the big events The Fiddlers Courtyard in Bridgeland is (or was) owned by a Scottish guy...they have Tennents on tap and it still tastes just as shitey after making the 5000mile journey across the Atlantic The Drum and Monkey on 10th is the Sevco5088 supporters club, its not very good though |
Re: Scots in Calgary
ah ok, will need to try the Canadian Brewhouse and Scotsmans Well!
Does the Brewhouse play Scottish football games? not too keen on venturing to the Drum and Monkey! |
Re: Scots in Calgary
If a Canadian sports channel carries them (usually SNW does) then yeah they'll put it on for you!
They probably wouldn't open for an early Saturday game though...there are some who will...of which i believe Drum&Monkey is one, but i'd rather watch it in the house than go there hah Where are you from originally? And what brought you to Calgary? |
Re: Scots in Calgary

Re: Scots in Calgary
Hi cbrown,, firstly better apologize to clare francis for hijacking post..!! Old helensburger..!! had many a good time there and down in Rhu... I was a firefighter for 20 years... also like a lot of other firemen, always been in renovation, construction etc,,, recently completed degree in sustainable building tech,,, so something in const' management is what the ideal would be,,, for now,,, anything with a proper wage that'll cover rent..! to get started.. to answer madscots,, we came to Peterborough, Ontario, as this is where my wife's family are originally from..!1 unfortunately , there is no work ,, so Calgary it has to be...? think i'll start a new post here or clare francis will kill me..! :)
|
Re: Scots in Calgary
I used to like fishing at Rhu lighthouse when the tide was out :)
Living in Edmonton, work with one other Scotsman, but he's a lazy bugger, and full of himself(from Snydebank) From Beith Ayrshire myself, loving it up in Edmonton. |
Re: Scots in Calgary
Rhu spit is very popular with fishermen, it used to be shallow enough to herd cows over....
Work wise in Calgary O&G is going through the crap part of the cycle. Construction wise though it is still booming, my girlfriends dad owns a drywall and stucco business and he says it is going flat out for now... |
Re: Scots in Calgary
Thnx..... Just spendin this week phoning around different companies.. was gonna take a trip over and chap some doors,, but reckon it's too close to holidays, most places winding down now...!! reckon if I can arrange a few meetings and hopefully a start somewhere in the new year...? so anybody knows of anything. let me know...:)
|
Re: Scots in Calgary
