Scotiabank account number format
Hi All,
Please is this how Scotiabank account number format looks like (
000000012345678). I recently open this account online so I can transfer some money before arriving in Canada.
The zeros on the account seems to be too much, so am not sure if its 12345678 that is the actual account number.
If this is the format am planning to use Transferwise to transfer about £2000 (just being cautious) before I arrive.
Thanks

Re: Scotiabank account number format
There are three elements to an account number:
The institution number is a three digit number that identifies the bank. For Scotiabank this is 002.
Next there is a five digit number that identifies the branch.
The actual account number varies by institution. My Scotiabank accounts all have a seven digit account numbers. When filling forms that have space for longer account numbers the account number goes to the right is is pre-filled with zeros.

You may also need the Swift code for an international transfer. Your bank should be able to e-mail you a page with the correct details for the transfer.

Re: Scotiabank account number format
I just made a transfer from the UK using Transferwise, all I needed was the 3 parts JonboyE mentioned - institution number (002), branch number (5 numbers) and account number (7 numbers for me).
Money arrived in two days, no problems.

Re: Scotiabank account number format
My last transferwise transfer arrived the day before according to my bank statements.
When I requested it Sunday afternoon my confirmation email said Monday, which I thought was pushing it but it showed up in my Canadian account between going to bed Monday night and getting up Tuesday.
My UK statement shows the debit Wednesday.
TransferWise can see the future.

So SB is 002, then google transit number for whatever town/branch the account is located in- or maybe google online transit number. Compare that string of numbers to that long number thrnim guessing there may be 7 more numbers which are your account number?
But have you checked properly on your online account? Maybe it's hiding somewhere ina not so obvious place?

I think sometimes they bunch everything together.

I don't wish to worry you, but did you spot this older posting:

I also recall reading that the Scotiabank newcomer account does not allow transfers from anything other than your own personal UK bank account while it is in this 'frozen' status.
I would recommend a personal trip to Canada then set up a 'proper' bank account (although I suspect you would need a SIN, which in turn I don't think you can get without a CoPR / visa etc.).
Certainly I did this and have had no problems whatever in making Transferwise transfers into My Canadian account (with TD Trust and yes, I do have and use the information that JonboyE mentions).

Transferwise can do this because it is not actually an international money transfer as such - it is simply a payment from one Canadian bank to another.
Transferwise works quite differently from true FOREX companies in that it does not actually convert 'your' money - you pay into their ESCROW account in GBP and they instruct their Canadian ESCROW account to pay out by local Canadian money transfer the agreed sum in CAD (money that people converting from Canadian dollars paid in) - sort of a peer-to-peer currency matching service.

I think she will just take a stamped print out of her bank statement and take along incase sge is asked to show proof of income at the airport.
Once in Canada she will open a proper account.
Thank you once again

You do not need a SIN to open a regular bank account. Just satisfactory ID.
