Hi
We are yet to arrive over there, but generally the feedback for schools in NS is really positive. Like all places they may be the odd one you may wish to avoid.
Here are a couple of useful links not sure which area of NS you are looking at?
http://www.ccrsb.ednet.ns.ca
http://www.nssba.ednet.ns.ca/new/ind...&pid=85&lang=e
From what I have seen it is a similar system to here ie elementary and high school, although they start nearly a year later than the UK.
One other thing to bear in mind too is that the school placement works on the address of your property without much room for flexibility, so this will be important when you come to look for properties to rent/buy

Grades primary to 6 are elementary, grades 7 - 9 are junior high, grades 10-12 are high school. Remember they stay til 18 yrs old.

In NS the first year of school is Grade Primary, this is for children who turn 5 in the calendar year of school entry. From what I have observed the expected outcomes for grade primary are no different from those of primary 1 in the Scottish system, which covers roughly the same age group (give or take a month). My kids moved from the Scottish system to the NS system last year. They were ahead in some areas and behind in others, both have settled well and I am very happy with the education they are receiving. My kids are at the elementary stage so I can't comment on the junior or senior high level.

My suggestion of the Wiki was only for the question I quoted in my reply.
