Hi everyone looking for some advice,
so we’re set to move to Canada in the few weeks on a Lima work visa 2 years for my husband and I’m on a open work visa and my three children aged 3,8 & 10 will be on a visitor visa.
i emailed the school in Canada I’m hoping to get my girls into and they sent me relevant form but among these forms are school tutition fees for international students. I queried this and she said it’s because they’re from another country. I won’t made paying a fee for school but it’s $13000 + a year each child. Does this sound right?

I'm assuming it's a private school? There's no tuition fees for 'normal' school for children of TWP holders.

We came on TWP the kids were issued with a document stating that their father was on a work permit and that the kids had the right to study in Canad? We had to show that to the school and we didn't have to pay anything. I am assuming it's not a private school.

It’s sorted, I told her her we are going to be on visa and she told me we don’t have to pay as long as we show our visas thank you for your replies!

I am always intrigued by this question which seems to come up several times a year in the Canada forum, though less often in the US forum, where the same principle applies. When education for children in Canada is mandatory for all children through at least 16 (and 18, or until a high school diploma is achieved in some provinces), I wonder how the attempts for some schools/ administrators to levy a charge dependent on visa status stands? The mandatory education laws don't appear to have "dependent on visa/ legal status" clauses, and as the laws go back around 150 years, I wouldn't expect them to do so.
And as a related matter, I wonder what happens if parents just say "we live here, education for our children is mandatory". I suspect that the schools know that they don't have a leg to stand on wrt trying to levy fees to supply a service (education for children) which they are legally mandated to provide to all resident children without restriction.
