Hiya
I have had a thought - i will be working all year round once we are in Nova Scotia but obviously my Son will be having holidays from School - Are there any Out of School clubs or provisions in place for Parents who work throughout?? Once we arrive we will not know anyone so cannot even ask family or friends to look after him. Surely we cannot be the only family that has to work throughout the holidays!! What do people do with their kids if they have no family??
Are Employers family friendly??
Thanks

There are TONS of summer camps - where they go at 7am and you can pick them up at 5/6pm. Have a look here for an example:

You'll wish you never said that!!! I will bug you again i'm sure.....
How old are your kids?
J will be about 7 by the time we move - How did you overcome the fear of letting them out of your sight??
I hear that it is very different over there with kids having more freedom from their parents because of the safe environment compared to the UK. J never leaves my sight at the mo apart from to go to Nursery!!! I am worried that i wont be able to change my feelings on that!!!!
xx

I wouldn't let them as I can't see them or hear them when they are up there!!
I think I need to get over this before I go mental!!

My two are 5 and 3. That is quite funny you should mention that! My daughter has just found out that one of her school friends lives in the house behind us. To get to her house, you have to walk through the woods at the back of our house and your there. Her friend and her 3 year old sister are always coming down to our house to play. Yesterday my two wanted to go up there to play and I freaked out!

I think it will definately take me some time to get over that feeling of needing to watch their every move.....even the thought of him going to one of those summer camps makes me feel uneasy.

My youngest goes off to pre-school at the Community centre two mornings a week as well.
You will get the hang of it - it is just yet another thing to adjust to once you get here!
Which part of NS are you looking to come over to?

It does get easier! My 5 year old goes off to Sparks once a week, will be signed up for T-ball this weekend and most definately WILL be going to at least one weeks worth of Summer camp...if only to save my sanity after 10 weeks off school!!

Do you like it over there? How did the kids settle? J is my main concern which is why we want to move while he is still young.
How are you adjusting to life over there??

I love it here - it felt like home the moment we arrived. My kids settled in really well. I wanted to be in a house ready for my eldest to start school in September. I wanted her to start with everyone else, so she wasn't the new kid. We managed it and she has come on in leaps and bounds ever since. When she plays with her Canadian friends she sounds like a little Canadian! I don't recognise her!
People are so much more kid friendly over here it is untrue. It still takes time to get used to seeing a group of teenagers who wave hello and chat to your kids when they walk past!

We are in Porters Lake which is 30 mins from Halifax. We lived in Halifax for 6 months but I much prefer it out here. We have just under 2 acres which is more than enough to keep both the Husband and Kids entertained!

Must be nice not to walk past a group of "Hoodies" and feel intimidated!!! I would move now if i could but my Husband is finishing his Course to become a plumber and by the time he gets the years experience it will be 2011/2012. This means that i cant move until 2012/2013! Believe me though - i am looking at all my options to get there quicker!

I was completely fine up until the final second when we had to go to the airport and then wouldn't let go of my Mother-in-law...lol. After that I was fine! I do miss not having a friendly face to see every now and then but I am starting to make more friends here now so that really helps.
