If you took your GCSE at 16 then it means you have had 11 years of formal education.
If you took 'a' levels at 18 then you have had 13 years of education
In canada children start school a year later at 6 and leave at 18 ( 12 years of education) At 18 they leave with a high school diploma. So assuming you took higher/a levels then you have the equvalent of a high school diploma.
Of course things get more complicated with college and university education, but as a rough guide how many years did you do in education.
I hope this is what you were asking for.

Thanks Helen, I started school at 4 and left at 16 but only got 5 gcse grades but my partner has 10 gcse's and 2 highers, So i take it that we would have a better chance of higher points on the test if we used her as the main applicant due to her better exam results.

I don't think exam results matter , its the highest qualification reached eg degree etc and number of years of education
