Angry Sandwich Board

If it wasn't so friggin cold I'd ruddy well stand on the street with a sandwich board pasted with a copy of my resume on it cos Im getting so damn desperate for a job!

(Know how I feel?!)

You should see my new improved resume, many thanks to both Iain and Clare, I dont even recognise myself, well hardly!
Have started sending it out today, keep those fingers crossed or I may have to sell my soul or something to get a flippin job here, even ruddy well Sears wont touch me!

Would be nice if certain people who say they will call you would, even with bad news, its annoying being ignored....OK I shall stop grumbling for the time being!

Thanks Y'all

Good luck in the job junt. I took a way more junior job and now - 30 months later - my career is flourishing....

If you have a chance, check out the files section of the Calgary Immigrants yahoo group - someone has posted some darn good stuff about resume writing, and job search URLs! Here is the link - but natch you have to join the group to access the files http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Calgaryimmigrants/files/

membership still pending, story of my life really!

Think I may post a copy of my resume on the mailboxes, its a small community but I have definately seen another car with a scottish plate on the front, maybe they'll take pity on me!

I'm going to an industrial site in Fort Saskatchewan today to just pop in some places and leave my resume.
Will go to the Mall too, see if theres any part time shop jobs to keep me going in the meantime, saying that, the last time I tried that I was over qualified, wonder how all these other people get work as cleaners & shop jobs, do they lie on their resumes or something?!

I was talking to a lady in a pet shop(no jobs at the moment)she says she cant believe I cant get work cos I'm so nice!

No not moving to Edmonton (yet) but we're flexible and things may change. Busines, hmm a little more difficult. Looking at property rentals, fixing up fixer uppers, farming. The farming thing is one I've kicked around for a while and was going to be lavender farming but the weather here just won;t co-operate
so looking at fruit farming, saskatoons maybe. My realtor told me he has someone from London looking at purchasing a rental block and they will need a property manager, would I be interested? so this may be the break we need. I'll get moved tomorrow then I'll have time to look at it in much more detail.
Looking forward to a trip to Edmonton for a bit of retail therapy soon!

Lavender farming, wow!, thats a new one on me, is there are a big demand for it?

Fruit farming sounds like a good idea, theres loads of fruit farms near where I live, I just got a booklet in my mail, theres a place near Calgary called The Saskatoon Farm (www.saskatoonfarm.com), they supply to businesses, they're stuff looks amazing, have a look at their website, we are planning on visiting them in the spring.(nothing ambitious, we only have an acre!)

Come to thinkof it, I asked someone here where I could buy rhubarb plants and they had never heard of rhubarb, do they have rhubarb in Canada?

Cripes, I'll make that my mission for today, see if I can find someone who can sell me some rhubarb plants!

Hi Pammy

As far as getting a lower level type job, it is probably worth generating a different resume to the one for your dream job, not really lying as such, but "targeting". Its really horses for courses, and if you think they think you are overqualified, then they probably do, so just be selective what you have on your resume for the fill in type jobs.

Good Luck

Iain
