Sure, these are the things the OP needs to consider during negotiation. I personally would decline a $40k salary in their circumstances unless I badly wanted to come here.

Perhaps, then, you would find the BMI useful...

According to this infallible method, your GBP 25K is worth $C 42.5K

My gross salary in CDN was almost exactly twice that of my UK one in GBP. I feel I am not quite as comfortable here as I was in the UK (net salary I think will be less than the UK though hard to determine due to the approximate tax system here and the daft EI/CPP rules which increases my net salary significantly later in the year). However, I am also in Toronto rather than Norwich.

Ah, burgernomics. That actually puts the GBP/CAD rate pretty close to reality. Readers should pay attention to the footnote:

It's also best to use it only to measure currencies between countries that are at a similar stage of development.
The fact that Canada is an undeveloped backwater is well documented.

I believe ( but i may have you confused with somebody else)from other posts you have made Mc Donald's is supporting your visa application, i take it in that case you are entering Canada as a transferred company employee and will get your visa via that route.

For that to happen, by law Mc Donalds and other companies like that have to pay you a salary that is on a par with other staff employed at the same level, so if you can find out what others are paid at the same grade as you that will give you your salary answer, rest assured they will not pay you more than anyone else at your level just because you came from the UK.

Thanks for that Ian, you aren't getting me confused, after help I received from this site though, I was enlightened to the fact I cannot use intra-company transfer route. Instead I will be using the SK skilled worker route. :fingerscrossed:

Re: salary check!

potentially useful sites:

http://www.livingin-canada.com/work-...es-canada.html

http://www.labourmarketinformation.c...sel_criteria=0

start with this, see if you are being offered a fair wage, then check the town/city to get specific real estate data, utilities costs..etc to see if it all adds up for you.

good luck
