Just curious to see if I am thinking right - If I moved here, but only started getting everything in order - job start, moved into long term rental in August etc does residency mean when we first set foot here - or when we started working etc. OH started her job even later, it took her a while to find an employer willing to accept her non Canadian work experience

For tax purposes you generally become resident the moment you set foot in Canada with the intention of living here for an indefinite period.
