Roller Coaster

Yep it's certainly been a roller coaster ride this last few days.
Haven't been posting much as there has been so much to do in the countdown to our moving date and all of a sudden here we are, the removals guys arrived this morning (early) and my house in now in even more chaos than before, anything that stays stationary for 10 seconds or more gets wrapped.
(mental note to self: mustn't nod off in chair today)
It's hard to beleive that we are finally on our way and the next time we see all our belongings it will be in another country, or floating off the coast somewhere.
My last week at work went really well (i'm unemployed now
) and on the last day we had a lunch out and they had invited a few ex colleagues along which was nice and they presented me with a laptop computer and case which was fantastic, so i shouldn't be off line for too long.
When i arrived home feeling good i opened a note from my mother asking if we could meet for a lunch next week with some cousins and asking if she could have back an old medal i was given by her father when he died as, and i quote, "there's no point taking it out of the country" It really spoiled the day to think she is being so petty and i really don't know what she wants it for. Her father always promised the medal to me when he was gone and i have had it for 30 years or so and it has never ever been mentioned in all that time.
Oh happy days, better go and make tea/coffee i suppose as the missus has done a runner.

Good luck with the move Printer.
Although my mum isn't too keen on the idea of us taking her grand kids away to Canada she hasn't asked for my grandad's medals back yet, mind you we are still waiting for PPR so it may still happen!!!!
Best wishes for the future

Yep it is somewhere in a box so i think i will offer to give it to her when she comes to visit. (she says she won't be visiting that far away)

if its any consolation mate, i've just been asked for my uncles medals back. exactly the same situation as you, had them for around 25yrs. he was one of the first 8th army soldiers to be selected by sterling for the long range desert patrols and went on to guard churchill, so they obviously have some significance. i wonder though sometimes if our parents really know what they are doing and the effect it has, i hope not or that would be really depressing.
And judging by Woodywoodsides comment also it seems that there are lots of parents around with the same attitude.

Well just to update you all the packers finished wrapping everything today, there was only 2 of them and they were really good and obviously very experienced at it. They finished at 10am and the container arrived on cue at 10.30am, even though we were having a 20ft container it was on the back of a 40ft trailer but it didn't cause too much hassle and they were all loaded and away in 2 hours.
The house is now empty except a few personal belongings and our mattresses which we are not taking so it seems wierd.
Had our first "lump in the throat" moment today when my son gave a couple of photo frame gifts to his 2 closest mates (1 boy, 1 girl) and you could see they were all quite choked up and we had to look away.
I suppose there will be a few more of those before we fly out.
Hankies at the ready

Hope it all goes smoothly for you Printer
As for the medal, hope you don't mind me throwing in my two pennies worth, but hang on to it! I won't bore you with the details, but my Grandad wanted my Mum to have his medals, to then pass to me, for me to pass on....... My Grandad died before he gave them to her & my Mums Stepmother sold them (not that i'm suggesting your Mum is thinking of doing the same thing for one minute), but my Mum was heart broken & wonders where & who has them
Anyway, all the best with everything

Hi printer, not been on here for ages then I come on and read a post that you're packed up and on your way to Canada?! OMG! That was fast.. or time's passed by too quick, or or t'other
Are you still heading to Alberta or have you revised that since last we bumped into each other on here?
As for your mum, sounds very petty & shallow and MY mum always taught me to be the better person and set the example.... so since its packed away being shipped to Canada, if those medals are raised again in coversation I would simply ask her why she gave them to you in the first place 30 years ago if it wasn't for you to have... simple question really and one she should be asking herself!
Anyway, best of luck to you mate, hope you and the family arrive safe and sound in one piece and hopefully your adventure will then begin for real

Who have you used for the move print?
My daughter has agreed to land on July 10th before she gets married, not sure what happens after that...but at least I get to live there, maybe.
