Although I am afriad I beat you to it first cuz that was exactly what I did on Google before posting my query. However most of the cards I came across had high annual fees so next I was gonna ask the memebers on here if they knew of a cheaper alternative.

The cards that offer you incentives such as roadside assistance etc. will be the ones that carry fee. They aren't going to give you everything for free.

Everything has their price, sometimes you just have to pay it.. or go without.

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned the 'feral tow trucks' in the GTA. I see them wait for prey near highway junctions, ominously idling their Vulcan Intruders and V-8-powered Ratlers while monitoring police frequencies.

Yeah, I remember that when I lived there, I remember people telling me to be really careful. The solution to my mind was to buy a car that was reliable.

Ah, no, i was wrong, soz, CAA plus is 5 tows, 160kms and covers motorbikes too, didn't realise it covered passport pics, wondering if they are the same as citizen photos? I'll loom later.

gold also covers pedal bikes. I nearly fell off my chair when I read that. lol

We have used CAA twice this week (actually 3 times but once was their fault). Been fairly impressed with response time, about 20 mins from call to arrival of truck. They towed car to the garage of our choice, actually the second time they towed the car to a garage with a similar name to the one of our choice, hence the third tow after I spent most of the morning trying to find where they had taken it. They don't seem to be as keen as the RAC was to try to mend the car themselves.

Our last towing experience with AMA was a complete gong show, really bad experience, but the other times have generally been ok.

Last winter we were driving out to Kimberley for a week at the cabin, driving late at night (around 1am) taking the Crowsnest Pass route. We were way up high in the mountains, miles from anywhere or anyone, and we hit a giant pothole which totally shredded the tyre. We tried to get out and change it ourselves, but it was -30c and the vehicle was packed heavy with luggage.

We checked our cell phones, and no signal, so we had to hike a couple of km until we got a signal. Called the AMA, and they told us they'd send someone out to help. Within an hour a beat up old tow truck pulls up, with giant bull horns on the hood. I thought I could hear banjos playing, and started wondering if my will was up to date. Bearded fellow gets out, walks over, and says he's from the AMA. Ok!

Anyway, he got the wheel changed in no time and sent us on our way. The fact that we were miles from civilization, in the mountains, in -30c weather, and they got someone to us to quickly justifies the AMA gold memberships we've been carrying for years. Worth every dime.

Y'know when you call and they say are you in a safe place? If you say no, we are halfway across a junction with a trailer - the service you get is SHITE!!! Over an hour - long enough for the transmission to cool down enough to actually move to a safe place - that was not a fun day at all. But we still have AMA as the other umpteen times we have required their assistance they have been pretty good, they just have a couple of numpty tow companies.
