From what I have found on this (for BC where I am) BCAA has has the best rates and best coverage for the money.

I think it would be CAA elsewhere in Canada, but no clue if they offer the same service/rates as BCAA.

CAA are "ok". Ish.

I hear that Costco has a decent offer for members.

Locally, I tend to use my son & his extended network of friends ;)

I'm with the AMA/CAA, have the Gold package, but it's still pretty crap.
If I break down, I only get towed 140km before I have to start paying mileage at about $1 per km, which with the vastness of Alberta, I don't want to be breaking down in the middle of nowhere.
If I have an accident, I get a rental for 5 days I think.

With the AA in UK, I had full European coverage and if I broke down anywhere, would get towed back to my front door and if it meant an overnight, a hotel was included + a rental car (up to 7 days) until mine was back on the road.

I use roadside assist with my Spot tracker. They know where I am without me telling them, can contact them without cell coverage, has a 911 call feature. Costs $35US a year on top of my Spot subscription.

I think there's a little bit of the old "rose tinted glasses" at work here...

No, it is this http://international.findmespot.com/

I take it everywhere I go. Flying, in the car, hiking. It is a lifeline, reports position every 2 minuted, if I get into difficulties, I can be found quickly and it works where cell phones won't. It can be used anywhere in the world.

Looks like it uses Globalstar, so probably not. I believe they're in low orbit, and can only provide service where they can see a ground station.

We built the ground stations for a similar system that uses geosynchronous satellites, which has coverage pretty much everywhere other than close to the poles.
