Hi
Please could you advise, I am an experienced RMN in the UK.
I would like a temporary contract in Canada however I am aware that not all states take RMN qualification.
Which states accept RMN qualification please?
Thanks
Katie M

You can do a search for psychiatric colleges of nursing Canada but looking at least 4 provinces and the ones I can think off are Manitoba, Ontario but check this link out Education | RPNC

Moved over to the Canada forums, where the post will be more visible and likely get more response

My girlfriend is a registered mental health nurse. I have done some research but I could be wrong on some points so anyone feel free to correct me.
From our research, the only provinces (states are USA) which recognise the RMN qualification and mental health nurse speciality (psychiatric nurses in Canada) are the western provinces; British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. From what I've researched the other provinces use general trained nurses for all nurse roles and as such their general training is broader than the UK training. This means a UK mental health trained nurse trying to get registered in one of the eastern provinces such as Ontario would face difficulties as they don't have mental health as a distinction from general training.
All of the provinces I listed have multiple job positions in everything from acute, drugs and alcohol, community and elderly but registration isn't easy and seems likely to take longer than the immigration process.
We have looked into temporary work and other options but to work as a nurse you need to be registered as a nurse which is likely to take over a year, potentially further training and a significant monetary investment. If you're looking to just work abroad for a couple of years and return to the UK, Canada is probably not the place to do it. Australia and New Zealand have established programs which take UK nurses on short temporary work permits with minimal effort to obtain registration (we have looked at this too).
My girlfriend and I are looking to Canada with a view to permanency, if I was looking for temporary I'd probably not bother tbh. Foreign trained workers getting registered under regulated professions seems difficult and sometimes expensive.

Exactly! Hubble works in BC but it seems to be getting harder each year to get qualified over here, despite the call for nurses. Worth it but it won't be a quick turnaround. Good if you wanted to make it a permanent move but if only for a couple of years then probably not.
