Without getting political, how else do you think universities should be funded, apart from charging the people who benefit from them?

Anyway, UK university education is still less costly than North America and I cant see that changing anytime soon.

Some might say that encouraging families to live together will have a positive effect on society, with care of the elderly being undertaken within the family, like it used to be in days of yore. You might find you are glad of your kids living with you, to empty your bed pan and push your wheelchair

I agree - from what I have heard from colleagues the UK method seems much better.

Also I think it will force students to think long and hard about uni and realise the implications and the fact they will have to pay it back. Hopefully less people then will go to uni and do degrees in Harry Potter or go more for than lifestyle than for the education.

Or take an OU course... I'm 3 years into a 5 yr degree and am completing it as a foreign based student. That way I'll have a BSc hons and entry to the uk society I need to practice in uk, will then have to do equivalency to practice in Canada, plan is to be done when littlest child is ready for school.

Standard uni is wayyyyy to pricey for us as im an adult student. But I'm earning that darn degree!

I've only skimmed over this thread so forgive me if I'm repeating what others have already said but my opinion on this is (and this isn't aimed just at the OP):

- The UK isn't that bad, there are 'issues' but it's still a good place to live. Anyone who thinks it isn't obviously hasn't travelled that much or doesn't look at other areas of the world that closely.

- You should move to another country for positive reasons, not negative ones. You should consider a move to Canada for example because you want to experience the mountains, the lakes etc and a different lifestyle. Not because you don't like the UK and think it doesn't have social or economic issues. It does.
