Should it be the school's or the parent's responsibility to provide paper, pens, pencils etc for children at school?

Hi, i think it should be down to the school to provide paper, pencils etc. With our twins starting school this September for the first time over here we've a lot to pay out in school fees etc. I don't understand why we should have to provide everything they need, it's a school for crying out loud that's what they should do. They were both very happy at school in England and were doing really well , they are both intelligent kids (only 6 but hey they're my kids ) I only hope they adjust to Canadian school life without too many problems.

My point is that I believe it should be the school's responsibility to have the stuff each child requires to learn - not the parents to send the correct coloured folder or correct brand of pencils etc.

I have no problem with paying the school to do this - but I do think it should be down to the school to organise. If they charge all of us for these goods then they will be able to absorb the non-payers costs. In this way you avoid the problem of some children not having what they need and therefore the teacher struggling to deal with the 'haves' and the 'have-nots'.
