Default Residency requirements for university home fees

Hello. Does anyone know when we would need to move to Canada by to be eligible for home fees at a Canadian university? If we move to Canada when my daughter is in grade 11 or 12, for example, will we have to pay international fees at a Canadian university? Thanks in advance.

Unlike the UK, there's usually no requirement to be resident there for x amount of years before being eligible for local tuition rates, it's all based on status. Will you have PR? If so, she should be eligible to pay local tuition rates rather than international ones, although you'll need to check with the individual university to be sure of their rules.

Careful though, there are out-of-Province rates as well as international rates. Taking Quebec as the only example I funded, the rate in first year was about twice that of the second as, after one year, the student was a Quebec resident.

Thank you for this. That is great news. My children are dual citizens, so hopefully she'll be okay then. I couldn't find this information on the universities' websites, so I really appreciate this. I'll look into the out-of-province fees too. Thanks!
