You have several options. You can find out what they are from the Wiki article called Transporting Pets.
Also make yourself aware of the bylaws regarding cats in the municipality in which you'll be settling. Do a Google search for CAT + BYLAW + [NAME OF MUNICIPALITY].
Hope that helps.

Thanks Judy- Have started another thread on the same subject which has had a few more replies. Seems strange to force the poor thing indoors....

Hi
Not taking Cats to Canada but we do have a Springer Spaniel. Our Vet advised us to get a pet Passport in case things don't work out. No Quarantine from UK to Canada but if you return to the Uk there is quarantine, destressing to the pet and very expensive.

May seem strange keeping cats inside...BUT in the UK you don't have coyotes all over the place....My neighbour's little girl was pretty upset when they found 'bits' of their very pretty tabby cat in the green space we look out onto....Really would recommend caution on the cat front!!! I do occasionally see cats going for walks on leashes but frankly I would NEVER have a cat here....
Good luck anyway

Hi We brought 2 cats over from Jersey and we needed rabies vaccines and pet passports. We then needed to get a certificate 7 days before we travelled to certify that they were healthy enough to travel. When we arrived we just went to the BA hanger and pickedthem up (had to pay $200) and brought them home. They were a little shell shocked but otherwise fine. Although they are not legally allowed out we have had them licensed and the are we live in there are cats everywher so we let them go. One is very old and can't get over the fence and the other goes for an hour or so. Although iut has to be said that when it is cold they don;t want to go out anyway!!! Hope that helps

Hi
We have two cats who we want to take with us (Vancouver Island) and we were advised by our local vet that although we were coming from a rabies free country to have them vaccinated otherwise when you get to Canada you will have to get them vaccinated within a certain time period of landing. The canadian ministry that deals with this says on their website that this is not the case as we come from a rabies free country but we will probably listen to the vet to save any additional hassle when we arrive. With regards to the pet passport the vet said this was only required if we were returning to the UK. Also they will have to have a health check in the week before they fly which I think is an airline stipulation.
Hope this helps.

i will be taking my cat to Toronto airport in July, thought i was been real good as i bought a cabrio cargo cat carrier, looks real smart only to be told by a pets transportation company that it wasnt big enough and didnt meet the airline standards
, He recommended their box made out of plywood (so no windows i think) and said i would need the big one as my cat is big!!, to me he is a normal cat size!!, He quoted £550 for the flight with thomas cook airlines, and waffeled on about "we do all the paperwork at each side",
Missy has already had is injections and we are just waiting for the form from DEFRA for the vet. Do you think he was trying to pull a fast one!!
other people have taken this carrier and was ok,
