Default Renting in Toronto

Hey there guys, new to the forum and hoping I can get some advice.

I'm going to be going on the IEC to Toronto for about a year, staying in Toronto for probably 95% of the time. I'm looking to rent some accommodation over there, a 2 bedroom place for me and my travel buddy.

From what I can tell most places come unfurnished and was wondering if that means absolutely no furniture at all? It probably does, so does anyone have any recommendations of where to get things like beds, chairs, tables etc for a relatively low price, as i'll have to leave it all in Canada when I return to the UK.

Also, while i'm here, I might as well ask for recommendations of areas to live in Toronto. I'm thinking as central as possible but don't want to absolutely break the bank.

Cheers guys.

You may strike lucky with minimal furniture, if you need it. We looked at a few rentals, advertised as unfurnished, where the landlord was happy to leave some furniture - eg desks, table & chairs, kitchen stools etc. Ikea trip probably unavoidable for some things tho!

Ikea is shit and not really cheap at all. Check out Goodwill stores and places like Value Village.

If you can get access into the lobby of condo buildings...they often have a notice board with items for sale.

Or rent a van and drive out to the suburbs on bulk collection day and just pick up what you want off the pavement.

That happens here in New Jersey. Our pick up is on Tuesdays...people put their trash out over the weekend. By Sunday night anything worth taking has gone.

Rather than risk the suburbs one could try the affluent urban areas such as Cabbagetown or Rosedale.

Hi there,

DO NOT GO TO IKEA!!!!! You will be very surprised at how expensive it is over here compared to the UK.
We v just moved into a rental property and I cant stress how good Value Village is which is great if you know that you will be leaving all of the stuff behind, you just return it to them to resale!! ( plus they are a charity so your helping others to!!)

We got two four seaters couches for $25 each very comfortable even though they are not that pretty on the eye they do the job and a throwover never hurt anyone!!

Good luck!!!
