- Has anyone secured a place to rent before they have landed? How did you go about it?
- Do you know of any good websites that we can look on in this area? (we have searched Kijiji)

Best first stop for local rentals is the local papers

K8P2B5 is a local postcode that will help narrow the online search

Failing that there are a couple of large rental agencies you could contact directly to discuss your options.
Kenmau is one of the larger local ones I think, (dont have a link) as well as
www.Pinnaclepropertymanagement.ca
www.RoyalPM.ca
Are you thinking Belleville, Trenton or somewhere more rural?

I went the motel route for a few weeks which is straight forward then rented a place. BTW Kingston is much nice city. IMO. In Canada it can help just walking around your favorite area. Because here people buy signs in the window for rent. Its not uncommon to wait 2 month before moving in. But by using a property company can eliminate this and some landlord can be flexible .

Oppppssss....people put big signs in the window saying for rent etc. This is great way to find your perfect place sometimes. It is normal to sign a 1 year least. You should be able to find a decent motel to get started from, so you can go out and get a place easy. Took my no time at all.
Tip...Go to Picton sand banks for a nice day trip http://www.pec.on.ca/other/sandbnks.html.....
iaink small world. First Essex and now your live close to where i first settled.

Looking for signs is good too I suppose, but not much use if you are not already here. Cant think of any motels in Belleville or Trenton I would want to spend serious time in! I spent a couple of weeks in the downtown Clarion Inn and Suits (ex Quinte Hotel) before getting an apartment. That was as much as I could take
Sandbanks is nice in the summer, but lake effect snow all winter long would make a daily commute to work in belleville / trenton a bit of a chore. Same goes for commuting from Kingston.... thats not a great stretch of highway in the winter...thats why I dont live that way...my jobs in Belleville. One guy here does it though.
I imagine they asked about Belleville because firstly its a cheaper area to buy into a nice property than Kingston, and its an hour closer to Toronto which makes spending time in the city that bit more doable. Kingston has more in the way of shops and nightlife of course, but it has its downside too...

I only mention Picton for a day out not to live.

Just a thought. If you are looking at a city based on price.
London Ontario Is also cheap and nice and very affordable city and is in SW ON and has slightly milder winters. Tons of cheap housing. 400,000 people too.

Hi
When we relocated to Canada we stayed in a suite hotel for a few weeks.
We lived in Ottawa so there were probably more options.
However I would rather stay in a suite hotel until I find the home I want.
Another option is to look into a full furnished apartment. I believe you can rent by the month.
Try also looking onto craiglist.com . they always have good listings.
Good Luck

The Clarion in downtown has limited "economy suite" type accomodation
The Fairfield up by the 401/mall may have, and the Travelodge on hwy2 next to the airbase has some kitchinette suites (and presumably primarily a service person clientelle). The Ho Jo near the 401 in Trenton might have some kitchinette suites too?

Note that realtors get very little out of rentals, so keeping their interest is difficult.... It took a number of attempts before we found a place via a realtor...
