Default Renting in Alberta

Hi all, we are relocating to Canada from the UK very shortly but struggling to find anywhere to rent as we don’t have the credit score history they require or landlord references - we are selling our house and relocating.
can anyone offer some help or advice as we keep being told by realtors that when we apply we automatically go to the bottom of the pile, even if we provide a mortgage statement, proof of funds and my partners job offer, which he is due to start imminently. What else can we do??? This is causing so much stress as we’ve looked at quite a few now…
thank you in advance

Hi

Many will share your frustration and sympathize with your predicament however this would also apply to any Canadian moving to the UK under the same circumstances.

Dealing with a realtor for a rental is not always the preferred solution as they mainly deal with properties to be bought and sold. Certain rental sites can be scams and others ok.

RentFaster.ca appears to have a wide selection as is RentSeeker.ca condos.ca

I would personally stay away from sites like craigslist and similar type sites.

Alberta is a big Province you need to be more specific of an area. Some areas will also have less choice.

Sorry can’t help you any further maybe others will chime in with suggestions.

Mods will probably move this to a better part of the Canada forum.

That’s fairly standard for new immigrants, you’re not likely to find something from the UK especially if the market is competitive. Most people just do an AirBnB or similar to start with. Will you have Permanent Residency?

Where in Alberta? Airbnb is probably your best bet to begin with.

You can put down a deposit if you rent with Boardwalk, a rental company - they're in but they'll want a 1yr lease with you. Otherwise, plenty of rentals on Facebook Marketplace. A mate in Alberta just had a Brit sign up for renting his old place - and all she did was contact his landlady as it was advertised on Facebook Marketplace.

Get your prospective Canadian employer involved to act as guarantor for you..... My company did this for all of its incoming employees.
