Following on from my last thread 'Mortgages' we have decided that renting for a year would be the best move. I have googled rental properties and it is all gibberish. Can anyone tell me where i can find furnished property details. I am drawing a big blank

Lots of used furniture in the papers too. We went to a motel for a month before we got everything figured out.

Furnished is not common. Many properties for rent are advertised on the local paper and occasionally online. Some Realtors also handle rentals, which may be a better way to go. Which area are you going to?

I'd still suggest talking to a realtor.

We moved over with just clothes. Were lucky to get a rental quickly and the landlord was selling the contents of his garage for his daughter who had moved back home. All we purchased new was a bed.

Take a few grand and go visit Ikea.
It should end up cheaper.

The easr coast is a good place to find furnished houses, apartments etc. The downside is that most are from September to May, June as they are summer residences. They can be quite expensive and heating is not included in the rental agreements. Kijjii is a good place to start.

I know in calgary there are lots of short term fully furnished rentals. They come at a price
but they are great for a month whilst you find your own unfurnished place and go to the shops and buy your new furniture. most are for the corporate relocations but at the moment many are sitting empty.
We did not even consider bringing our old stuff from the UK. We came with just 12 boxes which came 8 weeks after we had moved into the house!
We brought new furniture to suit our house and i am sorry but me and hubby must be the only people on the planet or british who hate ikea. I use to like some of the market stuff, but that is not to my taste. We had great fun going to all the shops and buying new stuff for our new house (well new to us) for our new life in canada.

When we first arrived we moved into a furnished rental for a short time - but the key there is that it was only doable financially for a short time. (Almost) the only furnished rentals I've seen here are "serviced apartment" type deals or short-term lets for visiting executives etc. They tend to be very expensive in comparison to the regular rental market.
