We used PSS to move from the South East to Calgary at the end of last year. Service was excellent, took exactly 1 month door to door. Packers were very thorough, only 1 small breakage in a full 40 ft container (a small china ornement) and to be honest we don't know if it got broken in transit or as we moved the boxes around in our current basement. Note that generally they do all the unpacking as well as the packing, but we are living in temporary accomodation while our house is built.

Base cost for the jam packed 40ft container was around the £5.5k mark. Original quote that we got from them at the beginning of last year was about £700 less but the increase in oil price and value of the Canadian Dollar was not beneficail :( .

We used Whites to. There was a strike in Vancouver port when our stuff got here followed by truckers strike, we ended up paying $1700 for storage ('cause our stuff couldn't be moved and had to be stored (thank got the costs were split between 6 as it was a shared container). The unpacking we paid for wasn't done so we should be getting $100 back but havn't seen it yet (we got our stuff in Sept) and we had to fight to get the insurance claim paid up and they only gave us a % - not replacements. Cheap quote, cheap service although the striked were'nt their fault we could have done without storage charges that weren't our fault. Also our stuff left 8 weeks after we were told it would leave - this left my hubby without tools for his job for 6 months, bit hard to work as a mechanic with only a socket set and hammer you picked up cheap when you got here!

tfa logistics are a freight forwarder who also are happy to take domestic loads.
i found out about them following an email with an airline as we wanted to find out if our dogs could come on the same flight as us as see if we could get it cheaper than airpets (quoted £2050) . anyway i rang TFA and they are a FF for many airlines and deal with all kinds of cargo. the conversation ensued and we discussed the whole move.
stand back because i had a quote to move from bedfordshire to calgary of
£4500.00 ( final destination to be confirmed but likely to be cochrane or airdrie and to allow an extra £200-300 for transport of cargo to final destination)

this price includes the following..... a 20ft container (self pack) delivered to your home, carriage of 2 dogs as cargo on same flight and flights with zoom for 2 adults and 1 toddler.
needless to say we will be using this company, i told the gentleman concerned that i would be spreading the word on this website and he was happy for me to do that and would welcome further enquiries. i also asked what the delivery time was on the container and he said no more that 15 days max.....i asked why then are other companies quoting weeks and weeks and he said so they can nab you on storage fees. ships follow tight schedules like aircraft and so its in their interest to get to the destinantion and back as soon as poss. he also said that only a removal company will tell you that you need them to pack for you and think about it, you would be paying a minimum of £2500 for someone to bubble wrap your goods....when all you need to be is sensible and pack logically as if moving goods yourself in a lorry......which we have done many times.

hope this helps

i think putting blankets over a dining room table and facing it down like you do in a removals van, is a bi different to the abuse a container must receive on a transatlantic journey, lifting on off vessel etc

am no expert, but i don't see these firms carrying out a 'bubblewrap scam' for the naive.....

just accepted a quote with Whites for sole use of 20ft container
Abdn - Calgary £3800ish plus insurance (includes full bubblewrap - size of bubbles unconfirmed at this time(

well if thats how you pack then your stuff will get damaged !! dont take me in the literal sense...careful packing with all the right materials im talking about..

im not going to bother any more with this web site...we have our visas now we dont need to pick anyones brains and ask inane questions for asking sake as we have managed so far with out doing so. i was trying to put info out there but as usual there are those who cant wait to knock you down and poo poo it. and for your information my friends self packed a container twice to usa and back and had no breakages either way...common sense prevailed with their packing.
im glad walters family found it useful that was all it was meant to be...another option.
good luck
