Default Removal Company Estimates

Firstly, before I'm rude about them, the packers sent by PSS were absolutely first class when they spent 3 days packing our worldly goods last week.

But, take the volume estimates that they quote you for with a pinch of salt. They estimated just over half a 40ft container for our stuff. When the day came, they only just managed to close the doors on the container. Admitidly we had purchased one extra item that the estimator never saw. A new king size mattress Hmm 800 ft3 of mattress.

Anyone have any idea how long the customs clearance takes. They told us the container would be here on 6th December (3 weeks transit time)

Not sure about the shippers bit, but seeing as it will be a customs sealed container there should be no delay dockside.

At your local customs office, if you have your stamped goods to follow sheets ours took about 2 minutes.

Good luck,

Rich

If we had the goods to follow stamped at the airport (customs weren't interested that day!) it could have been done by the shippers and sent to us directly.

As it was we had to go to Toronto but the process itself was done in a few minutes and a photocopy. They even called the shippers to release the goods

We just had Dorre Bonner in yesterday and today. Packed everything in a day and a half and loaded a 20ft container in 3 hours.

The company estimated we would have a tight 20ft container...........they were spot on.....doors just about shut :scared: :scared:

Ship leaves Uk on the 29th nov and we are told that IT WILL arrive on the 13th Dec (bar any unforeseen events).

We have been told it can be held up in customs for 7-10 days

Good luck on your shipment.

The one in Calgary usually takes a day....The paperwork takes minutes to complete, I would suggest getting there early, as the geezer who needs to sign the paperwork sneaks off at about noon ish, so if you miss him or her it won't be until the next day until you are signed off....Then again they may want to see your huge matress, just incase you've stuffed a car in there or something.

Gosh thats quick. To get our stuff to Vancouver Island door to door we have been told 6-8 weeks!! I think most of our journey is done by rail / road / ferry that takes the time. Luckily we have no hurry for any of it. Our shipeprs reckoned two days to pack 600 cubic foot, that we have packed most ourselves!

Urk, our packers said we shouldn't pack anything ourselves as they had to see that nothing, erm, 'dubious' was contained therein.

We have been packing for weeks and there is no way they would be able to do it all, or would I let them, They will do the larger items and pictures/ mirrors etc. I would not know where anything was or what was in the boxes if they did it. I've labelled the lot, and done the customs sheets.

The guy from the company came around only last week and saw all the boxes packed and did not say that is was a problem. We had other quotes as well from companies that actually send boxes ahead of removals for you to pack. When I fly and get to the airport they say "Did you pack your bags yourself?" - I would actually worry that they throw in a few odds and ends of their own! We will have all the boxes shrink wrapped on pallets so they cant be tampered with as well.
These removal guys have to justify the prices they charge by offering "professional packing"
